Angel Reese Suspended After Eighth Technical Foul; Sparks Team & Fan Reactions

September 4, 2025, Chicago — Chicago Sky star forward Angel Reese has been suspended for one game by the WNBA after accruing her eighth technical foul of the regular season, triggering an automatic one-game ban under league rules  .

The infraction came during Wednesday’s win over the Connecticut Sun, where Reese and Sun’s forward Aaliyah Edwards battled for position under the basket. Reese was assessed the technical when her hand struck Edwards on the head. The league deemed it a “non-basketball act,” resulting in an unsportsmanlike technical foul  .

As a consequence, Reese will sit out Friday’s game against the Indiana Fever unless the suspension is overturned—and Chicago will also miss Indiana’s standout Caitlin Clark, who remains sidelined with a groin injury  .

This marks Reese’s eighth technical, surpassing this season’s threshold and triggering the league’s suspension policy, which imposes increasing penalties for every additional technical foul

Context & Controversy

Reese—who is averaging 14.6 points and 12.6 rebounds per game this season—has had a strong individual campaign on the court  . However, her season has also been shaped by mounting frustration. She recently made headlines after publicly criticizing team leadership and hinting at a potential trade if roster improvements aren’t made  .

Following the backlash, Reese clarified that her remarks were misinterpreted and issued an apology, emphasizing her respect for teammates and acknowledging her own frustration—not with the franchise—but with herself

Angel Reese’s suspension highlights the tensions within the Chicago Sky organization and the cost that comes with on-court aggression. While her performance remains elite, her current absence adds further challenges to a struggling Sky squad.
